Snowflake Quilt

We've got a new quilt to show you today! I'm doing my best to enjoy the season and embrace it, and I guess a quilt with a giant snowflake is a great way to do just that. We've revamped the Snowflake Quilt we made last year, added some details and borders to make another size option, and we are happy to say it's ready!

The Snowflake Quilt can be made in either a crib/large wall hanging size or throw size. I love the idea of putting organic fleece on the back and giving this as a baby gift for a sweet winter baby. It's a great gender neutral design that won't take long to put together. We also included instructions for adding large borders to make it a great throw size. The quilt I just finished up is the throw size.

The snowflake fabric in the sample is Passage in Forest by Anna Maria Horner. I love how it makes the snowflake look like it's made of a lot of different prints, but it's really just this one! The background is Bella Solids Off White and the binding is Peppered Cotton in Citrus Yellow - the perfect punch of color to finish it off. The pattern needs 1 yard for the snowflake fabric, 1 yard for the background and an extra yard for the border if you plan to make the throw size. For the back we used Kaleidoscope in Green from Cotton + Steel's Christmas line.

For the quilting I sketched a quick design based on the snowflake, then marked off the lines I had to have on the quilt. It basically just extends the main lines of the snowflake, adding in some extra lines for interest here and there. It was fun to do and an easy size to quilt on a home sewing machine with a walking foot.

The last time I made the Snowflake Quilt I did it in black and white solids. It was super graphic and I still really love it, but it's so fun to see how different it can look with a print and punch of color!

The Snowflake Quilt pattern is new and improved as one of our Pretty Easy Patterns. This means it's just $3.99! Grab a copy in the shop or online.

Happy Quilting!
