Wedding Gifts Handmade

Love is in the air! We adore weddings - pretty brides and handsome grooms, time with family and friends, the music, and dancing! It’s all so much fun. Giving a handmade gift is like giving an heirloom. Don’t worry if it’s not on their registry. You can’t register for handmade…but, wouldn’t that be great if you could? Here are a few gift ideas that will mean so much to the new couple.

This woodgrain embroidery art with the couple's initials is a sweet gift. If you are new to embroidery just stop by the shop and we’d be happy to help you get started. This project doesn’t call for any fancy stitches and can be completed in a relatively short time. We added the wedding date to the bottom edge of the heart to commemorate their special day.

His and her’s aprons are a great personal gift! The denim apron pictured below is from our free apron pattern. The cupcake apron is made from The Emmeline pattern by Sew Liberated. If couples that eat together stay together you have to assume cooking together makes married life even sweeter, right? Help the happy couple start things off right with a set of handmade aprons.

Another great gift idea is fabric napkins. Not only are they eco-friendly but they can take any meal up a notch! There are many ways to make this easy project. Pick the method and the fabric that best suits you and the recipient. We made ours in less than 10 minutes. That’s right, 4 adorable napkins in 10 minutes. We took 4 fat quarters and just did a rolled hem using our serger all the way around each napkin. No cutting or trimming, we let the serger do all the work! If you aren’t sure how to do a rolled hem on your machine, come use our serger for $5 an hour and we’ll get you set up.

Here are a few links to more great tutorials that show alternate methods for creating fabric napkins. Left to right: bias binding finish from Purl Bee, color blocked napkins from Sew Mama Sew, & mitered corners from Celebrate Creativity.

Sure, it’s easier to purchase something from a wedding registry but personally, I remember who gave my husband and I the beautiful handmade blanket and unfortunately, while I love and use our mixing bowls, I can’t remember who gave them to us. Handmade is giving a memory.
