We had a wonderful whirlwind of a trip to Houston at the end of October for International Quilt Market. We saw a ton of amazing new fabric, learned some new skills and of course had loads of fun. (Side note - a little business advice: choose a business partner that you enjoy spending time with! Makes life a whole lot more fun.)
We are so grateful for the opportunity to go to market and watch our industry change and evolve with thte passing seasons. The industry still feels as though it's undergoing a lot of transition as companies try to figure out how to market to the traditional customer and the modern customer. We do our best to filter out the commercialism and just stay true to our first love - fabric. We only buy what we love and that will never change. This market we were excited to see a bit of a resurgence in vintage inspired prints, lots of new color trends to explore, and lots of garment sewing!
Cotton + Steel again created a lot of buzz this market. Their new lines are beautiful and distinct. While each of the 5 designers has their own look, their prints also work together. The thing we've loved about working with the Cotton + Steel fabrics since July has been not just how great they are as stand alone prints but how awesome they are mixing and matching with loads of other fabrics. New to this release is a collection of double gauze.
Double gauze is a fabric made with two layers of cotton gauze stitched together that creates a beautifully soft and drapey fabric. We sourced it before from Japanese companies and fell in love with it! We can't wait to increase the variety we offer. Cotton + Steel's new lines will start shipping in January - you can be sure we'll find a great way to celebrate!
The next collection we are extremely excited about is Carolyn Friedlander's new line, Doe. We have come to love Carolyn's artistic style - subtle geometric design paired with perfect color choices. Her quilts are as exquisite as her fabric. She has several new patterns we look forward to stocking as well. Her new line ships in December and we are pleased to tell you we have ordered the entire line! Watch our Facebook page for updates on its arrival!
So many other amazing things to come! April Rhodes' new line Wanderer, Crimson Tate's Succulents fabric, Leah Duncan's Morning Walk, Allison Glass' Handcrafted fabric line and her new book all about modern applique are just a few of the great things to look forward to in the coming months. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Instagram feeds for updates!
